Exactly with the generalization...that just seemed an empty idea to me.
I like the idea of going through the motions in multiple places. We can definitely do that (and come up with new places close to home to do it).
Yes, this is the only place. He has been left alone in hotels, other people's homes, vet clinics, my home in VA where he's only been twice, etc. We've always waited outside the door, done a quick praise for quiet, and left. I've had people listen to him (especially the first few times) and nobody ever reported barking and he is always crashed out in his crate, very calm, when we return.
The apartment is void of most city sounds unless its a siren (45th floor). He is use to sirens on police cars and a fire truck (we live near a police station so that was a fun one to do with him when I got him). I do wonder if its the more quiet sounds that he hears like a slight hum from the elevator...or if there's a smell??? There are TONS of dogs in the building...He is use to people/kid sounds, cars, stray cats, etc. at home.
