Hi again eup! Thanks for the links! I have been checking out everything everyone has posted--haven't gotten through all of it yet but I'm working on it. Read a little about CGC last night and so I have a little idea about it and it sounds like it might be a fun idea to try-also great for the dog.
I don't have any dog parks here but wouldn't go if I did because you can't trust other the owners to train, socialize and exercise their pets instead of trying to use the parks to accomplish that for them. Is that politically incorrect to say that? I don't care if it is--it's true LOL.Only in a perfect world right? I did own a very large dog until he passed earlier this year. He was not formally trained but turned out well. He did wonderfully even with very small animals including a cat and mom's 2 Bichon's. Not all to my credit though--I was lucky he had such a lovely temperament.
The Small Paws you mentioned is one of the rescues my mom associates with. The people she goes to bashes with are at another board--Something on the order of "Bichon Bistro". Mom sells handmade dog clothes for small dogs. She used to sell in a few local boutiques/grooming shops but now primarily does it online. She does absolutely beautiful work and at times donates clothing for Small Paws benefit auction. Can you tell that I am proud of her just a little? She is very talented in many ways. You know I can't wait to dress my Malty to the nines! I used to make jewelry (necklaces & barettes) for the dogs and may just start that up again. Mom takes gorgeous photos of her dogs and posts them on a website--it is separate site than that from which she sells clothing. I'd give you the link so you could have a look but I don't know if I am allowed to post that kind of site here or not because there is a link to her clothing on the page.
By the way, cross your fingers for me. I have been a smoker for 21 years now and have not attempted to quit at all for the last 10. I quit quitting in 1998. I read about how tobacco can kill a dog if ingested (and of course not to mention the traditional health risks when inhaled) and I also read how it can cause tear stains in a Maltese. I bought the nicotine patch today and will be putting one on tonight. I cut back today just for practice and made myself go outside when I did it. I smoked about half of what I normally do. If I can quit, I'd save money quicker for that glorious puppy! P.S. My boyfriend offered to pitch in his change collection which he estimates to be at about $2,000 but I have to count and roll it LOL! DEAL! So if that is true I only have $1,000 left to go at most (some of the dogs aren't as expensive as the others), have warned everyone in the family that I will not be exchanging at Christmas and am watching Chrisman's site for new puppies due to be ready in October or November. I am going to question him, fill out an application if I like what I hear and be thrilled that he is only 1 hour away and I can visit!
I hope I'll have enough time to finish my reading, shopping, preparing puppy's room!
By the way, where are you from? I get the feeling by the way you word things that you are not from the U.S. But then again you know of dog organizations here in the U.S. Your humor reminds me of that of the Brits but your wording reminds me of an Australian girl that used to post here years ago. Just curious. Either way, I like it as I always get a chuckle from your posts.
