Jenn- Having rescued a few Maltese, and adoring the breed myself, I hope you will try working with a Maltese rescue group. It's a good way to get a fully vetted, often trained and lovely little dog. Later on perhaps you may purchase another Malt from a quality breeder. The links Karen provided should help you locate an org nearby and they'll assist you. We have well bred dogs from good kennels, and we have mill rescues. Guess which dog everybody likes best when we are taking our beautiful dogs to visit elderly or sick children, etc?!? Right- the mill rescue. BTW, as others have mentioned in this thread- there is no guarantee of perfect health- they all get something. *G* A couple of years back, I removed a malt from an abusive situation and acted as agent for a really excellent malt rescue org. I'd have kept that darling dog in a minute were I able. They rehabbed him, vetted and trained him- his lucky new owners are crazy about him. He looks great and his delightful Maltese personality has blossomed, too. They've occasionally sent me pictures and updates. One would not recognize him now from his "before" photographs. *G* Network with some Malt rescue orgs- perhaps that might be a good way to get a great dog. Not all are damaged beyond repair. *G* OK!
