Yes-- I have considered rescue. First a Maltese--almost flew to California for a rescue pup (not many healthy pups in rescue)--and then any other breed from my local shelter that might be compatible with me/my lifestyle. I didn't find a dog that fit with me (they are almost all of the same few breeds every time I visit). I opted not to after so many heartbreaks due to health in the past. Every animal I have owned was a rescue/stray of some sort. Winston, my American Bulldog was my last and if you remember, I inherited him as an intact male, had him neutered, only to lose him at a young age to prostate cancer earlier this year. I am still extremely heartbroken and have now realized that it will not pass no longer how long I may wait before getting another dog. I soooo do crave another best friend to share my home with. I fell in love with a Maltese that I assisted my mother with in doing pet photo shoots a few years ago and started researching the breed a little then. Just once, I want to pick a dog and a decent breeder and start from square one at puppyhood. I'm sure you can remember relating to that. Well, it just so happened after visiting the local shelter recently, the same breeder of the original Maltese I fell in love with had a litter and promised my mother one for me for 1,000. We do not know her at all (her daughter is a business associate of my mother's) and she is very far away (SC) and I am afraid that she is not a very good breeder and so I immediately began a search for a good breeder so as to hold off the temptation of taking that pup.
