I really need some advise on how to handle my dogs fighting situation. They are both rescue dogs, 1 lab mix female 1 boxer female. They been living together for about 6 years now and mostly they have been the best of friends. Over the last years they got into fights about 1 - 3 times a year it seemed like it was for various reasons. In the past week they got into 3 fights each one started the same way. The dogs have always been allowed upon my bed and they have spend most of their nights there without problems. Now it seems like the lab, Hershey, gets mad every time that the boxer, Schatzi comes on the bed and within a very short time she starts a fight. There is not much of an advance notice, she looks at Schatzi, gives a short growl and attacks. These last few nights I keep them in seperate rooms. I been letting Hershey stay in my room and Schatzi stays in my room mates room. Now I think that Hershey is just getting what she wants and I feel like I am aiding towards her behavior. I really need a different solution to this problem. Should I keep them both out of the bedrooms all together? Will that be a solution after all these years.
By the way, the boxer is not submissive, she will fight right back. I have always been able to seperate them in a short time, but I want a more permanent solution. Thank you in advance in any advice you might be able to give me. Gina
