The pups are fine. They are six weeks old (and Beth STILL cannot get pictures to dump off the memory card so she can take more so she has to wait for Brian to get around to it.)
So far, out of seven, there is only one she would call pet quality. Sizes are evening out - the larger ones are not really much anymore and the smaller ones are catching up. The stud owner keeps telling Beth to go by weight but that is not super accurate. We have a friend whose pups are raised on goat's milk during weaning and they are big and fat compared to other pups. They are just old enough to start measuring but getting a six week old pup to stand under a wicket is tough! The one pet pup just has a head that Beth has not likes since birth. Not bad but a bit domey and uneven. She also is a big pup all over and may be overshot - too early to tell but she is either overshot or has poor underjaw. But she is sweet, more laid back and a client at the clinic Beth works at lost her Sheltie of many years quite suddenly. Just tragic. She called the clinic looking for breeder referrals and the head vet sent her to Beth. The vet took pictures and emailed them and after meeting
the pups, she has a definite home. It will be nice as Beth will get to see her grow up as well.
The rest, Beth said are just all too nice to really pick from. Even the little CHW (Ravyn) I am getting Beth said is darling and just a very pretty girl. I think she is glad the pup will be going to a UKC home as opposed to a pet home. She will have a chance to be shown if she grows up well. Beth is waffling between the tri boy (as she says she needs another boy like a hole in the head) and the other tri girl (she would like something to breed to Ben after going to a genetics lecture and discussing things with the lecturer). She also likes a blue girl (cannot breed blue to blue) but she is worried she may have too much white for some judges. Not quite more than 50% but a lot of white and against an equal dog, may not win due to that.
Mom heads out Dec 5 to eval the litter and bring Ravyn back with her and whatever pup she decides to grow out as well. There is also a breeder down here who thought she lost her lines from one of her favorite dogs. Well, these pups and Ben go back to this girl. So she is interested in the litter. Mom emailed her and is hoping to hear back. Brian is starting to worry they will never leave! LOL!
And future brain is starting to work...
I was looking at Foster's pedigree and Ravyn's. On paper they are a very nice match. I just have to see how they both mature and if I can at least UKC Ch both of them (Gr Ch may be hard as there is a not lot of UKC here). I am not sure Foster will make 14 1/2" (much smaller than that is near impossible to finish AKC even if they are in standard - 13-16") but UKC tends to look more at the whole dog and a smaller dog will do fine if the quality is better than the other dogs. Ravyn is a Color Headed White and that pattern is only UKC allowed. But this is three or four years down the road and I have to be willing to give up owning a Molosser for a short time as well.
