To answer Glen's question, I know I've read a few of his books, but I really don't much else about Ard.
I think that "amoral", literally speaking, is right for the Devil/Satan. It is kind of what I get from "Paradise Lost". Now Archer... I need to buy more books.
Timothy Dane and Lou Largo aren't amoral. Then again, they aren't annoying either.
Haven't read William Ard?
We're really not going to argue who is the most amoral gumshoe are we?
Then again, it makes more sense than arguing that the Hulk should be stronger than Asgardian magic.
I'd far rather have Timothy Dane or Lou Largo on my side than Spade.
Nope, Hammer is a force of nature that make guys like Marlowe nervous.
Spade is simply the amoral $@& that you want on your side.
Archer is just too much in his own head.
I would describe Mike Hammer as more of an avenging angel than Marlowe.
Marlowe: Failed English Professor
Archer: Whiner
Spade: Bully
Shell Scott: The kind of guy we all want to hang out with.
I can agree with you about Marlowe, but I'm not so certain about the other two. What are your criteria?
Spade = The Blond Devil
Marlowe = The Avenging Angel
Archer = The Christ Figure
