I have been stopped by police, more than once. I've yet to meet an openly hostile police officer that just threw me on the hood of my car for no apparent reason. Does it happen, yes. But does it happen every single time a cop stops a black man? No. Have you noticed that you never see THAT happen on tv or in the movies? No wonder young black men run when they see the cops, whether they've done anything or not. And for the coup de grace, the name of the town is Free Land. Nessa's nickname is "Harriet Tubman" and Jefferson is "Black Jesus". And the most racist "white" people on the show was a dirty cop, a Donald Trump "stand-in" and an albino black man who hated his own race. You don't think any of that is racist?
Jeff is a family man first and foremost.
He is there for his kids, will do anything for them and is involved in his community.
He plays against the negative African American Stereotype. Which is why many white people don't like it.
