His Presence

a dog barks in the distance
a plane flies overhead
and I sit here quietly thinking
of putting myself to bed
a longing in my spirit
to reach out and touch my God
knowing he won't reject me
or beat me with a rod
feeling his holy presence
as his Spirit embraces my soul
finally achieving that oneness
that makes me feel that I'm whole
