Hi Sylvia,
Yes,yarn forward is the same as a yarn over.Just take your yarn that us at the back and bring it forward between your two needles and around to the back again to be in position for your next stitch.Hope this helps.I did that towel pattern long ago and it is my favorite pattern.It is also listed on the Knitwit's Heaven Site in their visiters section.
