Doc Savage's assistants are Huey, Dewey, Louie...er, wait a minute...sorry, I'm naming Indiana Duck's assistants!...Okay, okay I concede! Doc might have not been the inspiration for Indy.
Now that I think about it, I believe that the inspiration could have come from the grandaddy of all adventure heroes...Alan Quartermain!
