No offense intended, Robby (really, love your work, really do), but there's a difference between making people aware of what's in a movie and offering an opinion on whether or not it's appropriate for pre-teens (personally I think a PG-13 rating is clue enough that a movie is inappropriate for pre-teens; didn't you notice the rating before you went in?).
As far as the merchandising tie-ins, I haven't noticed Burger King offering anything "age-inappropriate". Parents can read the MPAA rating on all the posters and commercials and box offices as well as I can. I don't see any problem with Burger King offering inoffensive toys to kids (who, according to the MPAA at least, shouldn't see the picture) in order to raise their parent's awareness of the film, not to mention, more to the point, everyone else who comes within fifty feet of the place.
After all, if I give my grandson a toy stuffed elephant for his birthday, am I advocating that 6-year-olds should be given the right to vote? Of course not!
Again, love the blog (at least when you're not bemoaning how the superheroes of our youth ain't necessarily for tiny tots anymore).
(Oh, and BTW, the MPAA ratings strike me as "telling me how I should raise my kids", too. I read the reviews and make my decisions after I'm satisfied I've researched it enough. Sadly, too many parents just take the words of so-called "experts", which is, im my mind, dumping one's parental responsibility on others. But that's just my opinion, and thank you for allowing me to share it.)
