Domestic assistant vs servant

My family has listed on the 1871 census servants employed by the family. A daughter, however, is listed as a "domestic assistant". Is there a difference?

daughter might not be paid if she has an allowance, and is learning how to run a household, in preparation for marriage.

I would say a servant is an employee possibly trained in housekeeping skills the daughter helps out either alongside a servant or at the suggestion of the mother.
