1.Emily Austin baptised in the Parish of Stoke Damerel 18 Feb 1813 Baptism Record No168. Parents Richard and Francis from the Docks. Richards occupation Blacksmith.
2.Emily Austin baptised in the Parish of Stoke Damerel 24 Oct 1815.
Baptism Record No 1115 and exactly same parent details as in above.
A note alongside by the curates name says"Said to be born 2 Aug 1812".
Her twin brothers, John & Lewis (born 1 June 1815) are also on the page (Record No 1116) with identical parent details.
3.Emily Austin baptised in the Parish of Stoke Damerel 24 Oct 1815. Identical details as previous except Baptism Record No 1312.
As I haven't been able to find any death record for an infant Emily, I'm now assuming that these baptism records all relate to one Emily Austin born 2 Aug 1812 who was than Baptised twice (that certainly fits with all the births of her other siblings either side). First on the 18 Feb 1813 and then again on the 24 Oct 1815 (with her twin brothers).
I'm also assuming that the duplicate Baptism record for 24 Oct 1815 is something to do with Bishop Transcripts although thats a guess on my part.
I would really appreciate any comments/advice regarding my Emily and her double Baptisms and her duplicate records.
Was it a common practice for children to be Baptised more than once and was duplicate baptism records done for a purpose?
