Karen, I assume it's this record you have a copy of which should also show the ships he served on and more information that just the document his father signed when he joined. The first page of the record should show his date and place of birth and how long he signed up for. It might be worth you checking with TNA that all images are complete for this record. You could also check with the Fleet Air Arm Museum to see if they hold a copy of his Attestation - they hold these for all Royal Navy Seaman for a certain period, can't remember coverage dates.
