The IGI consists of two parts details submitted by their members. Sometimes there are fairly obvious errors and some of the events / dates are contradictory and double checking is often necessary as some of the suggested partners at a wedding died as a child etc the main section as indicated copies of BT's and transcriptions from D&C RS and can be considered more accurate. Sometimes names of parishes cause confusion to a non English eye for example entries for Wembury are duplicated in Wembworthy many miles distant and Honiton becomes re titled as Honiton on Otter.
The most useful tool to check if a particular parish is on the IGI is to check the parish on the Genuki Devon free website or look at the maps prepared by Vanstone see http://www.vanstoneweb.co.uk/igi.html
The parishes are shown blue on IGI pink omitted from IGI green a partial coverage. In a very, very few examples Genuki and Vanstone do not always agree the result.
Regretfully for parishes not listed [or partially listed] try firstly to search parishes adjacent but in reality you will need to arrange searches of the parish at a Record Office although some commercial sites may have published some of the data.
