Many Devon FHS members attended the Plymouth Local Studies Day on 6th May. We were all pleased to witness an unannounced item to the programme. Tim Powell, the National Archives' Sector Development Manager for the South West, presented a Certificate of Accreditation to Louisa Blight, Collections Manager for the Arts and Heritage Services in Plymouth. Tim congratulated the Plymouth and West Devon Record Office on achieving this award. He explained that Accreditation is the UK quality standard, recognising good performance in all areas of archive service delivery. Achieving accreditation demonstrates that PWDRO is meeting demanding national standards in caring for its local collections and public records, ensuring their long term preservation and accessibility.
Louisa Blight said "This award is a real honour. Many people know that the archives have been looking for a new home for many years. Now with the History Centre project in train, this ambition is becoming a reality. I want to thank Tim for coming all the way to give us this fantastic award and of course all the staff at PWDRO, who have worked so hard to make this happen. Well done, everyone!!"
