Dearin of Torquay area

My great great grandfather was Thomas Browning Dearin (?) who first turned up as the 12 year old son of ex-convict Thomas Dearin and wife Ann Heath, both born in Bovey Tracy around 1798. According to the records, he was born in Australia in 1816 before Thomas and Ann arrived. The couple arrived separately and were married in 1822. There is no record of Thomas Browning Dearin in Australia prior to 1828 and no records of adoption or fostering relating to his parentage. I am trying to ascertain whether he was a Dearin and may need to use DNA testing to find out. However, the Dearins appear to have disappeared from Devon in the second half of the 19th century and there now appears to be very few Dearins left in England. I would appreciate any information on the Dearins of the 1800s, what happened to them and are there any ancestors of the Devon Dearin line alive today who may be able to provide DNA evidence.
