I have a copy of the following Register WO23/24 Register of Greenwich Hospital Pensions 1968-70 which confirms that my John McDonald was receiving a pension on 1st January 1870. These are available on Findmypast along with other Greenwich Pension records. I mentioned that I had obtained this information in my original posting. I know that the John McDonald given in this register is mine as it gives his address in Plymouth which is the same as on other records I have.
What I need is to be able to use the pension reference numbers given in this register to find more information. At present I can find no further information on how these pension reference numbers can be used to find additional information at TNA or how to use them to find Naval Service numbers.
I was hoping that someone might have gone down this route tracing their ancestors who were Greenwich Pensions and could therefore help and advise.
