I cannot be 100% sure (pre-civil reg), but I have evidence from the censuses to support my theory that his parents married in 1829 in West Worlington. Susan's maiden name was BOUNDY.
Some years ago, I sent off for what I thought was George's birth cert. I was surprised that his mother's maiden name was shown as EDDIFORD. The cert is typewritten but I wrote to the Register Office and they confirmed it was the correct name.
John and Susan had a son called George in 1838. I have his birth cert. Mother's maiden name is BOUNDY. This child died in 1839. I have seen the burial register. All the children born after 'my' George were registered with MMN as BOUNDY.
I have looked for an EDDIFORD connection, but it's not a common name in Devon (I have tried permutations), and I can't understand where this name has come from.
According to the censuses, Susan was born in Meshaw, and there is a baptism there which 'fits' in 1803, parents James and Elizabeth.
Susan signed by mark on both birth certs, so there is the possibility that she was mis-heard, but not that that extent!
Any suggestions gratefully received.
