What you say is spot on,MV plays the same formation home and away and he would put the same team selection out every week but for suspensions and injuries.This means that the fringe players spend most weeks sitting on the bench,when they do get a game for the reserves ,the standard of players they come up against is no better than the local Sunday league.How can he then expect them to come into the side and play well when the pace of the game is so much faster and they know that as soon as the suspension is over they will be back on the bench.
