The midfield

I thought the midfield were disgraceful today and lacked any passion, drive, creativity or desire. Paul Carden was terrible and I am starting to think that he is immune to criticism or punishment by Wright. Carey was also awful and he has today fulfilled my belief that he is the worst central midfielder at the club. He has no strength and this was evident every time that Owers went into a tackle with him. His passing was also shocking and I think every time he passed the ball it went to a black and white shirt. It also beggered belief today that Carden and Carey remained on the pitch when Kelly and Davies who were better players were taken off. OK Kelly did not play very well but at least he was strong in his tackling and kept hold of the ball even though his running with the ball was very poor. However I would argue that running and beating players is something that Kelly was brought in to do, but rather to make tackles and stem the opposition's play. Yet the fact that his other partners in midfield (Carden and Carey) are so devoid of ideas on how to attack meant that the lad had to do the attacking play himself. I now think it is time Wright buried the hatchet with Steve Brodie and gave the guy a run in the team, because at this moment in time we need a central midfielder who can run with the ball and take players on and thread a pass because Carden and the God Awful Carey certainly cannot do this. Also either the young lad Griffin or Twiss should start because the first half of games at the Deva are becoming so predictable and boring with just long balls being pumped from defence to Clare and Sugden. Whereas if we had some flair players in from the start then maybe we could get at teams earlydoors by taking players on instead of having to labour and huff and puff to get a result in the second half like today.
