Posted by j on 14/9/2007, 10:08:19 If you're using Firefox (which you should be using anyway), close and reopen it. You should find a little red text on the right side of the status bar saying "Tor disabled". Click on it and it will become green and say "Tor enabled". If you use Firefox but you can't find that text after closing and restarting it, download Torbutton from http://addons.mozilla.org/it/firefox/addon/2275 (it should be installed automatically with Vidalia though). If you are not using Firefox, see the help file of your browser and/or operating system to have it use 127.0.0.1 on port 8118 as the HTTP proxy. (That's what Torbutton does, basically.) Now you can go to http://zu7zjvoahhpg2rwb.onion/ (yes, that's a weird address -- part of the security!) and enjoy the board. Note: the first time it's perfectly normal to get a proxy error by Privoxy (privacy proxy). That's because Tor is still finding its way to the hidden service. Just reload and let it work. It might happen a few times, but don't worry. Once you're done with the board, you can disable the proxy (either manually or by using the Torbutton in Firefox) to browse the normal web. Actually you can browse it through Tor and you will be safer, but it's going to be much slower than your usual browsing experience. Of course you will need to have Vidalia (which runs Tor and Privoxy) running when you want to access the board or any otherserver in Tor-land.

Go to http://vidalia-project.net/download.php and download the Stable Bundle for your operating system (probably windows). Install it and run it.
If you get a domain not found or address not found error with NO mention of Privoxy, it means that your browser is not using Tor. Double-check everything again.
The board will be very slow. This is perfectly normal, because every single file request is routed through a bunch of servers in a totally random way so your privacy can be guaranteed. It will be worth it, though!
Once it's loaded, I suggest you bookmark it.
