: : I don't think heat is the issue, the
: seedlings are in the shade, on the
: north side of my house, and recieve
: regular water. Not sure about the
: fertalizer...I apply Osmocote about
: 3-4 times a year, and the old is
: usually gone before new
: application...However, I did apply
: about half the recommended amount of
: your cycad fertalizer, but I don't
: think that could be the cause???
: The seedlings are 2 years old, so
: they are holding a good number of
: leafs, and the caudex is about golf
: ball size, with roots creeping out
: the bottom drain hole. I am
: stumped, Tom. I am currently taking
: a horticulture science class, and we
: can't decipher the condition. The
: previous flushes are perfect, but
: the last 5-6 individual leafs are
: deeply keeled, light green, followed
: by burning of the individual leaf
: segments. Now, 3 new leaf tips are
: emerging, but just fall apart to
: "fuzzy fingers". I use a
: well drained mix of 1/3 quartz
: blasting sand, 1/3 turfas (a handy
: little man-made rock that Disney
: uses for all their landscape) and
: 1/3 decomposed pine bark. I have a
: dozen other seedlings from Zamias to
: other Cycas in the same area which
: are thriving, so the conditions
: appear ideal for seedlings...The
: caudex of the damaged plants are
: hard, with no sign of rot.
:
yea, it is really hard to say. Everything sounds alright. You would almost need to have a tissue test done to know for sure, which I know it is probably not worth it.
