: : You did well. There are some genera
: that will grow great plants from
: that root and some that will not.
: What species is this?
:
: This was my middelburgensis
: seedling, approximately 2 years old.
: I got very suspicious when a brand
: new leaf suddenly died. I removed
: the plant from its container and
: noticed that the taproot & root
: systems were a healthy white color
: but the upper stem had a sickening
: spongy feel when I squeezed it. I
: cut the upper stem and discovered it
: had completely rotted. I then had
: to cut approximately 1/3 down into
: the taproot to remove all traces of
: fungal infection. I soaked it in
: fungicide for a day and sealed it.
: It is now recovering in perlite.
:
: Will the stem reconstitute itself?
: What care should I provide for it
: until then?
:
: Thanks for your help!

Just leave the sealed part above the soil line a little. With an enceph, it is possible but not as much as a satngeria or zamia would be. It is always worth a try, but I would get worked up about it. It is still very possible that a new apex will grow from the top of the root. I have done it so I know it is at least possible.
