: I emailed you in June about this
: sago.
: Resulted in purchasing your
: fertilizer and increasing the
: watering schedule to every 3 days.
: I have fertilized it twice now. I
: live in Austin, Texas and it has
: gotten cooler so I reduced watering
: to every 5 days. The plant grows
: tilted to the front in the pot.
: About two weeks ago, it had fallen
: into a more severe tilt. I removed
: some of the planting medium from
: around the base of the plant and
: straightened it. About two days
: ago, I noticed the front leaf is
: laying down and seems loose at the
: connection to the top. The other
: leaves seem ok. There are brown
: furry finger looking growths just
: behind this leaf. What is happening
: to the sago? Is the leaf loose
: because there is rot? Should I
: reduce the watering because the
: weather is cooler? Thank you for
: your help - your site is a wealth of
: information.
:
: It couldn't hurt to cut back an
: extra day in your watering when it
: is cooler. It is hard to say what
: made your single leaf turn down. If
: I saw that on one of my plants, I
: would cut that leaf off to reduce to
: pulling on the head and if you are
: worried, put some fungicide on that
: area, like a little Daconil, or
: something like that. If it is just
: one leaf there usually is not a bad
: problem to be overly worried about.
: I get that sometimes on new leaves
: that are overly long and the leaf
: stem for some reason can not support
: the leaf.
:
: Thank you!
:
: I forgot to ask - I mentioned the
: plant grows tilted to the front of
: the pot. I righted it some, but the
: new leaves fall to the front
: following the tilt. The leaf that is
: laying down is the one in the front
: and the tilt may be part of it.
: Should I repot the sago so that the
: trunk is upright? Is that a way to
: do it and not disturb the root
: system too much? Thanks!
:
: If it was me, I would plant the stem
: the way you want it to be, and let
: the new leaves grow to be correct as
: time goes on. I have cut leaves off
: in the past just to force out new
: leaves that will grow the way you
: want them, but I wouldn't do that
: now, but wait till spring, if you
: wanted to do it that way.
:
Tom - thank you! I really appreciate this bulletin board and your advice. I have not been able to find anyone in Austin who really knows Sagos.
