: you suggest. i plan to put them on
: the west side of my house in front
: of the porch. they will get partial
: shade most of the day from pecan and
: pine trees but will get intense late
: afternoon sun. should i plant them
: deep or high. going for a ferny look
: but dont want them to get killed in
: the winter.
:
: do you have any seedlings or seeds
: for sale right now? thanks

Your best chances at cold hardy cycads would be Ceratozamia hildae and Dioon edule. Furfuracea dies back completely in :Lakeland, I would think a furfuracea kept outside where you are at would kill it outright, even if you buried up the stem a little. The hildae needs to be in shade and the edule can handle full sun, but partial sun is ok too. C. latifolia might be a good one to try if you get a hold of one of the real cold hardy brown emergent forms.
This is the start of seed season coming up this month and mainly next month, and going all the way into late spring. I should have hildae and latifolia seeds in a few months and I pollinated a few forms of Dioon edule that should be coming up any week now. I have a list of past customers that ask to be on my list and I send e-mails to them with all the new seeds and plants that are special that I make available. My customers have been good to me so I take care of them well and give them first dibs at anything new. after about a week, I send a seed list to my forum here, so you will proabably see something here next month or later this month. All the species I mentioned don't sell out fast, so this won't be a problem for you. I am assuming you really don't want huge numbers of seeds anyway, so getting some won't be a problem. As far as small plants, I do have a few available when I have so many of a species that I can sell them small, like Dioon edule. I really try to sell landscape sized plants because that is a market that most cycad people don't take the time to deal with.
