i have a small sago that i transplanted last year into my yard. it got sunburnt and also got some white scale i guess on it so i cut all the leaves off to not stress it any further. the winter got rid of the scale but the leaves that came back are kind of dwarfed. it originally had about 8 leaves hwen i planted it but only 3 came back this year. i the meantime i got impatient and bought 3 more. so i'm tempted to experiment with the sickly one. i was wondering if i could take the stressed out one and cut the base in thirds, 1 for each existing frond and propagate new plants this way? i would just slice it three and snip of the existing frond to encourage the base to root. i'm wondering though, with the little leaves if there is enough starch left for this to be successful. your thoughts? also is it ok to do this this time of year?
