: After returning from vacation, the
: trunk of my cycas circinalis has
: been chewed on.
: Rats,mice, rabbits I don't know. The
: trunck is half gone. Can this plant
: be saved. What can I do to prevent
: this from happening again?
:
: So what is actually gone? The apex,
: or just part of the side or bottom,
: or what? You say half the trunk is
: gone. Trunk usually means a pretty
: good sized stem, like 6 inches to
: over a foot. If a stem has enough
: starch mass then it can be saved
: with or without an apex. My article
: on never throw away a cycad in my
: website linked on the header tells
: how to save even small parts of a
: stem to become a good plant. Keeping
: something from eating your plant?
: Just the obvious, make it so the
: anaimals that eat the plant can't
: get to it, however way you want to
: do that. It is very unusal for a
: small mammal to eat a large stem. At
: least you should be happy to know
: that chances are that animal is dead
: already because of the toxins in the
: stem.

Sorry for the delay. The apex is the size of a baseball which is half gone from the soil to where the new frons are coming out of the top. Thanks
