: We are new parents to a sago plam
: that
: sprouted an 18" cone,
: vertically, from the center of the
: leaf hub. It appeared to be quite
: healthy but is now drying out. I
: assume this is a dying pollen cone?
: We never had any plants like this
: and are really in the dark about
: care and feeding. I read in a post
: we can cut off the cone. How and
: when? Does this expose the center
: to insects or disease? Thanks.
:
: Sounds like a male cone to me. If it
: is drying out already, cut it off,
: it won't hurt anything. If you had
: cut it off cleanly a month or so
: back, you might have leaves being
: produced faster than they would by
: holding the cone as long as
: possible.

I removed my plants male cone to polinate a few females throughout the neighborhood. I've been fertilizing with Cycad Special fertilizer and I have about 20 new fronds coming up from that male plant now.
