: I'm just curious about this.I have a
: D. spinulosum in a 7gal.
: container.The stem is almost
: baseball sized.A couple of months
: ago it push out a flush of 4
: leaves. It has just now flushed again
: but with only 2 leaves.I kind of
: expected that the next time it
: flushed, that it would push out more
: leaves than less.I use cycad special
: and feed my container plants
: bi-monthly using less fertilizer.A
: lot of my C. wilailaks will put out
: a nice long leaf or two and then the
: next time they will push out leaves
: about half the size.

This has been a weird year for cultivatin cycads in our area. It has been very hot a lot longer than average. Normally, I only get 2 flushes the whole year on dioons. Once in the spring and the other time, in the fall. The flushes will normally be larger because of the built up energy level in the plant when they finally produce a new set of leaves. With the extra heat, and the good fertilizer, you have already had 2 flushes, and will at least get another one in the fall, which is VERY unusal for dioons. Your plant just could help itself to produce this second flush earlier than normal. I will bet that the fall flush will be larger, but this recent one just didn't have enough going to make a larger flush.
