: Upon inspection of one of my seed
: producing Cycas guizhouensis I
: noticed that a couple of seeds had
: split sarcotesta. I removed one
: from the plant and viewed the split
: with a hand lens and noticed that
: the sclerotesta was split as well.
: Are these seeds about to germinate
: on the plant? Is this unusual? I
: was going to wait for the seed to
: fall off of the plant and collect
: them for planting later, but should
: I harvest them now? Any comments,
: or suggestions would be appreciated.

Seeds can split whether they are good, or not when they get too much water. This happens a lot when seeds are planted in trays waiting to sprout. It is not all that common for the seeds to do this while still on the plant, but if you had many days of constant rain, that ould do it.
