Upon inspection of one of my seed producing Cycas guizhouensis I noticed that a couple of seeds had split sarcotesta. I removed one from the plant and viewed the split with a hand lens and noticed that the sclerotesta was split as well. Are these seeds about to germinate on the plant? Is this unusual? I was going to wait for the seed to fall off of the plant and collect them for planting later, but should I harvest them now? Any comments, or suggestions would be appreciated.
