Ceratozamia rot

Tom,
I have a Ceratozamia latifolia with a 6" caudex that developed bud rot. I removed the soft tissue, treated with Daconil and allowed it dry out. What are the chances that it will push a new bud from the side of the caudex, and is there anything else I can do to increase the chance of that happening?
