Last year I germinated a few microcycas seedlings. I put them into clear plastic containers with 45% perlite 45% pumice, and about 10% spagnum. I recently noticed what appeared to be some strange growths at the bottom 2 inches of the containers. They have slowly gotten larger. It finally dawned on the that they are corraloid roots. While most seedlings grow these, and it is normal, I have noticed that these plants have 2 or 3 sets of these. I was told after I planted my seedlings that cycads hate to have sunlight hit their roots. It seems, however, that maybe there is some benefit here, since it seems to promote the corolloid growths.
