You are right I am using your update mix for potting. The containers I am using have side hole and a very small center hole and some do not have a bottom center hole. I will cover them up like you suggested. Yesterday I gently removed the entire contents of about 10 containers and put them in containers that I drilled four holes in the bottom to add drainage. All my pots are raised to maximize drainage. The rain up here is every day and a couple of inches for the last three weeks and before that we have a could of frog stranglers to exacerbate the problem. It will take a a couple of days but I will do both the plastic cover and the addtional drain holes. I have plenty of containers so I will go ahead and drill the hole and quickly swap them out. What do you think? Thank you so very much for your kind help!

: I just got back from checking them
: and
: you were correct. Too wet and
: mucky. I could squeeze water out of
: the bottom medim with my hand. The
: mixture I am using in 3 parts
: perlite, 6 part course sand, 8
: lambert canadian peat, and 4 cypress
: sawdust. They are in two and three
: gallon containers and only have side
: holes. I know it would be alot of
: work but what could I do to the
: medium to make if not so wet and
: mucky? I am retired so time is not
: a problem. If I had to I could
: empty all the medium and add to it
: whatever that will solve the mucky
: and wetting problem but I cannot
: stop the rain. Getting wet in
: Tallahassee
:
: That pretty much sounds like my
: mix, but I'm using something even
: more coarse now. It should be
: holding up, so how much rain are you
: getting on these things? Sounds like
: a combination of that and maybe the
: drainage in the pots. If they were
: in caly pots, that might not be
: happening, as an example. If you are
: getting like 10 inches a week, then
: I would do something weird. I can't
: tell you what to do, but if it was
: me, I'd put 4 stakes, or small posts
: in the ground and tack some plastic
: over it during all this rain and
: keep that rain off the plants. (I'm
: doing this exact thing with a group
: of blue plants right now) Then you
: can regulate the water so that you
: don't have the problem. Anyway, a
: couple of ideas.
