: I just got back from checking them and
: you were correct. Too wet and
: mucky. I could squeeze water out of
: the bottom medim with my hand. The
: mixture I am using in 3 parts
: perlite, 6 part course sand, 8
: lambert canadian peat, and 4 cypress
: sawdust. They are in two and three
: gallon containers and only have side
: holes. I know it would be alot of
: work but what could I do to the
: medium to make if not so wet and
: mucky? I am retired so time is not
: a problem. If I had to I could
: empty all the medium and add to it
: whatever that will solve the mucky
: and wetting problem but I cannot
: stop the rain. Getting wet in

That pretty much sounds like my mix, but I'm using something even more coarse now. It should be holding up, so how much rain are you getting on these things? Sounds like a combination of that and maybe the drainage in the pots. If they were in caly pots, that might not be happening, as an example. If you are getting like 10 inches a week, then I would do something weird. I can't tell you what to do, but if it was me, I'd put 4 stakes, or small posts in the ground and tack some plastic over it during all this rain and keep that rain off the plants. (I'm doing this exact thing with a group of blue plants right now) Then you can regulate the water so that you don't have the problem. Anyway, a couple of ideas.
