If your soil drains well, then there is no need to let the soil dry before you water again. This is almsot always the situation with people up north that have problems with leaves dying off. You should read my water article in my website, which is linked in the header. I think you will understand more when you reaed it. Slightly, uniformly moist is the way to go.
