: Tom, It was good seeing you last
: week.
: You know we have major new watering
: restrictions.I have reclaimed water
: available but have not hooked up. Do
: you have any information on the
: effect the higher salts will have on
: the cycads? I will probably just
: hand water until the rainy season
: starts(I hope!).
:
: I don't think the salt levels
: would be all that high when it comes
: to reclaimed water. I'd worry more
: about the viruses in the water all
: over the yeard before I would worry
: about the salts. There are many
: cycads that are very salt tolerant.
: Cycads like furfuraceas and Dioon
: edule have been known to live where
: salt spray constantly hits them
: froma large body of water. Even some
: coonties in the intracoastal areas
: on the east side of Florida have
: been known to be flooded for a week
: with salt or brackish water. I know
: hildeas don't do good in this same
: situation. But the only cycads I
: might think twice about would be the
: more picky south or central American
: zamias, and even some of those
: probably wouldn't mind that water.
Thanks, I don't think it would harm them with limited watering with the stuff. It's supposed to be safe for irrigation but you're not to drink from a well within 75' of where it's used. E. ferox apparently grows down to the coast, too. It probably depends on the species, I've heard it's bad for things like azaleas. What's worse than drought? I'll probably try it with limited hand application. Spring is here, good growing, Brad
