Cardboard Freeze

My cardboard had ice on it for about 5 hours this winter.It is a large,mature plant,but all the fronds were damaged to brown.This happened during the freeze of 2003,and I cut all the fronds off,and fertilized.The plant came back better than ever.Should I repeat the procedure,or is there a better method ?
