clear cutting sego's

I have two sego's on either side of my front door and they have just gotten too large. The "babies" that have sprung up around them are the right size. I would like to use a power saw to saw off the large sego's at their base at ground level. If I do so, will the "babies" survive? Or will new sprouts emerge from the sawed off base? Thanks.
