: Its amazing how you saw these pests
: and then after being treated so
: badly has now brought attention to
: the scale being a major concern for
: your whole area. There is no wonder
: though because many south Florida
: nurseries ship to your area, and it
: is interesting that theyhadn't found
: it to be a problem already. It just
: took someone to speak up and be
: diligent in their actions. You
: should be highly commended for what
: you have done, but at the same time,
: it may help your whole area be rid
: of a problem that was probably about
: to be on your doorstep. Now you need
: to be watching around the landscapes
: like I always do to see if anyone
: has infestations that came from
: these nurseries. For me, I have
: copied a bunch of copies of my
: coffee article and pass it around to
: homeowner associations and that kind
: of thing when I see problems in a
: new area.

One thing I do know, the casinos along Las Vegas Blvd. all (or most) have very large and very beautiful sago palms in their landscape. It isn't inconceivable an infection could spread along the entire strip corridor. Esp. MGM and Mirage (Large indoor plantings) have rather extensive and large sago plantings.
And yes, I mulch everthing I can with coffee grounds, but and even starbucks can't give me enough. I have about 800 panzhihuaensis seedlings, 900 petrea, 200 zamia (should be o.k.), and a bunch of other plants, so I need like 300 pounds or more of coffee. With that in mind, where I haven't employed the coffee grounds, I have used imidicloprid at about 4 times strength. My plants are safe for now, but I fear if scale gets a foothold here, I will have to keep these plants pumped up permanantly on systemics.
I have done my part. I hope the ag. dept. finishes this thing. I have suggestions, but they must handle it now.
I already sense that my contact with ag. dept. at this point may be treated as an unwanted nuisance at this point.
