Watering

I feel comfortable with very frequent watering of "tropical" species like Cycas rumphii and thouarsii...but I'm a little hesitant to give for example my E horridus and E lehmanii as much water. Am I being too cautious or can I water them freely without risk of rot? My soil mix is 2/3 Turface and 1/3 perlite so drainage is superior. Thanks.
