Do you have any mature and paired
: plants for sale like Panzhiahuensis
: or Debaoensis?.(Love those plants)
:
: I agree totally on what you said.
: have bought tons of seeds, and have
: no regrets, but they money does add
: up.
: In another 30 years or so, some of
: my seedlings may produce seeds, but
: I'll be dead by then.
:
: Maybe investing in breeding pairs
: help to pay for buying seeds.
I have debaoensis plants and I do have a known male plant, but no females for sale. In fact these are too new for me to have a female at all here in Florida. The going rate on these outside of Florida is about $250 and inch of stem, so a female is probably about $2000 right now. These are fast enough that buying decent sized plants in the $500 to $700 range will make breeders in the next 3 years. I know someone who did produce a cone full of seeds and sold them for $2800. On Panzhihuaensis, I only have smaller plants that range to 25 gallons, but not sexed yet. If I have an extra sexed plant, it will usually be a ceratozamia or a zamia of some sort, because I have all kinds of extras on those, where these others are species that I am still working on for my own collection. I do have some known male encephalartos and maybe a female hildebrandtii, and a pair of Dioon edule, but that is about it. I do have lots of large plants that are in 25s and some in 45s, but usually when I sex something that size out, someone snatches them up pretty quickly. Like with a female E. ferox, I have a waiting list of 4 people who want one of those, and ferox is a fairly common encephlartos compared to others.
