: Hi Tom -

: Thanks very much for your reply on

: Funny thing about Google - I was
: searching for "broken Sago palm
: trunk," and this site doesn't
: come up. But when I changed it to
: "broken Sago" it was first
: on the list. HA
:
: Just one follow up question about
: watering, if you don't mind. I
: followed all the procedures you
: listed. I placed the sealed Sago
: trunk in the shade without watering
: the sand, but we're moving into a
: rainy period. Should I move it in
: the garage and let it remain
: completely dry until it roots, or is
: minimal dampness in the sand
: acceptable? If I'm understanding
: your article correctly, rot from
: overwatering is the main concern
: here, right?
:
: Thanks again for your advice - I
: appreciate it!

Nice to see you here on my forum. Yes, rot is what kills more cycads than anything else if you exclude insects. It is probably best to bring it in out of the rain if you are in an area that gets these 3 to 4 inch rains like we get here in Florida. You really don't want the stem to totally desicate, but then don't want to water it too much. Lets just say you got a half inch rain every other week, it would probably be ok to keep it out, but if you will get the almost every day rains, bring it in under cover.
