I'm sorry, but you missed something, like what we are talking about. We have a 40 inch something, should I assume this is a king sago that is 40 inches tall? A 40 inch Dioon edule would hold up a lot better though. Anyway, if so, you should not have to do anything or ammend the soil, if you are planting in a spot that has good drainage. 100F? sure, that species (Cycas revoluta) will take that. Where you live will determine if it will tqake your winter. Houston, no problem, Dallas, well most years, north of Dallas, probably will not survive a winter without protection.
