zamia seed collecting

Hi Tom, as you know I have been collecting zamia seeds... I have waiting for the seeds cone to fall apart before collecting them... my question is... Can a person collect the cones earlier than that and let them set outside at home here until they fall apart? These are coonties... also, the furfuracea will be coming up soon, and I was wondering if they can be harvested before they fall apart... thanks again, Steve
