: My Cycas Revoluta has been brought
: indoors for the winter (Southern UK)
: about 3 weeks ago and has put out a
: new flush of 4 leaves that have just
: kept on getting longer and longer
: until they are now about 3 or 4
: feet, with leaflets spaced at about
: 1 inch intervals. The trunk is only
: about a 7 inch diameter ball, so it
: looks really weird. What could be
: causing this? and is there some
: advice you could offer to get things
: back under control?
: Thank you.

Alex nailed it, but I will give you a little more info. New leaves will grow to look different depending on the specific light conditon they are growing in. ANY TIME you see new leaves starting to come up, that species needs to be in pretty much full sun to come out looking like what they do when they come from a nursery. The idea is when you have to bring it in during the winter, you try to make sure they don't flush. If you could have brought it out for a few hours each day while it was flushing you would have been alright. As long as you didn't experience anything below 25F, the plant would have been fine outside. So anyway, what you have is sun stretched leaves becasue any full sun plant that grows in the shade will get leaves that are elongated in some way. If the plant has good leaves already on it, I would cut the long ones off and wait to get another flush in spring.
