: Tom,
:
: This year my mature sago only
: produced a (female) flower and no
: new "flush". This is the
: first year it has ever produced a
: flower. My question is: Will it
: ever produce a "flush" of
: new growth again? At this point,
: the flower no longer appears to be
: "vital" (My location is
: Southern Ca.). Should I manually
: remove the flower, or should I leave
: it alone and let it take care of
: itself?
:
: As always,
: Thanks,

It might be a little late for flushes this time of year in your area. We are still getting heat, so we are able to. Chances are your plant may have produced seeds from a sago in the area and will not produce a new flush till next spring. The leaves will come up right through the cluster. If you want to do this, you can remove each individual sporaphyll (fuzzy brown leaf looking parts)where it is conected to the apex, starting with the outside ones first, and fertilize real well with something like my fertilizer, and you could still get a new flush this year if it is still warm for you.
