Sago Flower

Tom,
This year my mature sago only produced a (female) flower and no new "flush". This is the first year it has ever produced a flower. My question is: Will it ever produce a "flush" of new growth again? At this point, the flower no longer appears to be "vital" (My location is Southern Ca.). Should I manually remove the flower, or should I leave it alone and let it take care of itself?
